Mobile devices and applications are fast finding way into Enterprise environment. It is said in the Computing fraternity that Mobile computing is the fourth wave of computing. The new devices, with capability of installing the third party applications along with factory installations, are widely available. Few areas where mobile devices have an edge is CRM, on site data capturing, offline payment systems, remote inventory management etc. The benefits involved are huge. Besides reducing costs, the mobile computing technologies are increasingly being used as new market differentiator tool and they have an inherent advantage to increase the overall operation efficiencies and customer satisfaction.

There are competing Operating systems, connectivity protocols, networking infrastructures, applications and devices that can be easily integrated into legacy systems. With enhanced 3G networks being deployed and high bandwidth available, enterprise mobile applications have become a reality. J2ME and Win CE have made it possible to install and run third party applications.They have also been able to resolve most of the security woes. The potential applications will be Messaging, PIM, M-commerce and Location based services.
